Red Rock Audubon Society is organizing a volunteer event to help improve owl habitat for the Rainbow Owl Preserve Project. Earlier this year, volunteers installed two clusters of artificial burrows. We need to keep the habitat clean for the owls and for us to enjoy observing them.
The event will be Saturday September 30th 8 am – 12 noon.
Volunteers will help the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Republic Services, and a private land owner to clean up and improve a 4-acre parcel near the Gilcrease Orchard. (Between Whispering Sands and Donald Nelson).
We will mostly be removing weeds and picking up construction debris and trash and placing everything into an onsite trash dumpster.
Tools will be provided. Volunteers should wear long pants and closed shoes, and bring work gloves and water. Snacks will be provided.
If you can’t make it there should be about 4 more opportunities this fall and winter.
