On Saturday March 4th a number of Red Rock Audubon Society members met with volunteers from other organizations at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area for training to participate in the hummingbird banding program there. The banding program collects valuable information on these tiniest of birds. Volunteers will help expert banders by carefully trapping the hummingbirds using specially designed nets. Angel and Andy Poe can be seen here practicing their skills. Volunteers will also collect data on all birds that visit the feeders. The program runs from March through October on select weekends.
